Free Jazz Listening Party followed by Meichel vs. Moller
A Tribute to Ornette Coleman

January 20
At the Big Secret Theatre
- Fri. Jan. 20 - 11 PM - Pay What You Can
I bet you my quartet’s noisier than your quartet.
In 1961, Ornette Coleman released Free Jazz, an album that featured two different ensembles playing the same music, on opposite stereo tracks, at the same time. It drew a bold line in the sand-called-jazz, which critics, fans, and musicians are still haggling over today.
The Big Secret Theatre will be specially audio-outfitted in order to best appreciate this sonic delight. After the original recording is played, two quartets, led by local cacaphonicists Peter Moller and Dan Meichel, will reply with grace and fury.
