Cantos - Interactive Performance Tours
From The Netherlands & China • At Cantos
Delve into musical archaeology with a pair of international piano masters.
The heart of downtown Calgary holds one of the world’s most unique and diverse keyboard collections. The Cantos Collection features over 200 keyboards, dating back to 1560, including a one-of-a-kind Johannes Couchet harpsichord from 1679, a Kimball Theatre Organ from 1924 and a Beatles-style Mellotron.
Normally the collection is only viewable by appointment, but Cantos throws open its doors for a pair of interactive tours featuring two Tubular Bells pianists: Jeroen Van Veen and 2006 Honens Laureate Hong Xu. Accompanied by Cantos keyboard experts, the visiting artists will perform selections on a variety of instruments, exploring the evolution of sound over centuries.
