One Yellow Rabbit

Broken Tailbone

Celebrated Vancouver-based writer, performer, and activist Carmen Aguirre leads a public Latin American dance lesson!

Daring, sexy, and fun, Carmen’s performance is woven with hilarious stories of intimacy, politics, culture, the forgotten origins of the salsa, and her experiences in the hidden world of dance halls in Canada. She’s accompanied by DJ Don Pedro, who creates an irresistible musical environment to get even the most reluctant dancer up on their feet!

The audience dances as the evening swiftly transforms into one of the dance halls Carmen vividly describes, bringing us deeper into one of Canada’s most unique milieus: the LatinX dance halls. Gather together to listen, move and be moved!

Carmen Aguirre’s many plays include: the Nightswimming hit Blue Box (national tour to 12 cities, 2012–14), Refugee Hotel, and The Trigger. Her best-selling memoir, Something Fierce won the 2012 CBC Canada Reads competition; her second memoir Mexican Hooker #1 was published worldwide in 2016.
