2022 High Performance Rodeo: Spring Edition

High Performance Rodeo: Spring Edition

Tickets Go On Sale February 28

The High Performance Rodeo is back! One Yellow Rabbit’s High Performance Rodeo (HPRodeo) is returning with a series of seven productions and presentations this spring including a live music-meets-classic Chaplin film reinvention, an one-night-only ‘au revoir’ to dance from Calgary’s most prolific global ballet star, a world film premiere, and the much anticipated return of a One Yellow Rabbit classic. Hand-picked to delight audiences, these seven selections represent what HPRodeo is all about – wild and ambitious, progressive and provocative, and inherently LIVE. They will run on select dates from March 27-May 28, 2022 in venues throughout downtown Calgary.

The team at One Yellow Rabbit, led by Artistic Director Blake Brooker, has been hard at work preparing to activate your spring season.

“We’re thrilled to be able to present these shows, and to shake up the city, as promised. That’s the amazing thing about a Rodeo… when you get bucked off you get right back on the horse.”

“This spring, we are going to gather again to deliver jewels of performance and creativity”, says Producer, Oliver Armstrong, “We hope audiences will relish them to the fullest. Nothing beats the in-person enjoyment of the festival experience – conversations, discoveries, the pleasure of each other’s company.”

A One Yellow Rabbit classic returns, with a fresh interpretation of the world's oldest recorded story. Already ancient by the time of Christ, Gilgamesh reveals a remarkable vision of humanity. Goddesses and monsters abound, astonished humans ridden by fear and exhilaration search for the antidote to the fear of death. It's the first ever buddy movie, recorded over 4000 years before Thelma and Louise took their epic drive through the desert. Gilgamesh Lazyboy is One Yellow Rabbit's retelling of the ancient epic with trademark humour, energy and tenderness.

Set to several masterpieces composed by Ravel, Debussy and Liszt, The Memory Room will be a meditation on 30 years of choreography and how dance transformed his understanding of the human experience.

An evening of powerful classical piano music and breathtaking ballet, in an up close and intimate space, performed live by Calgary prodigy Kevin Chen alongside Alberta Ballet’s principal dancers Mariko Kondo, Kelley McKinlay and others.
